Why Choose a Coach?

Many people arrive at my office and are not suffering from any particular disorder: They don’t need “fixing”, they don’t have a specific “problem. We discover that they are looking for change, something new to embrace and an “I can do anything attitude”.  In essence, coaching involves a mindset change. Unlike counseling, coaching doesn’t focus on “Why”, it helps you learn “How”.

Coaching is collaborative. Making change is often easier when there is someone on your side to nurture you along. With a coach you have your own personal guide and cheerleader whose sole purpose is to help you define your path and get you on your way. My role as coach goes beyond the exploration and planning stages. I work with you to quiet the urgency that runs parallel to the desire for change. Learning how to be at peace during moments of chaos and upheaval is a big part of the process.

Coaching is a bit more relaxed than counseling. It can be done in any setting and works best where you are most comfortable. It’s not unusual to have telephone sessions that last 10 or 15 minutes or to take a a half a day to do an in-depth exploration. You will have access to me by email, telephone, Skype, webcam, etc. You can call to schedule a session when you need one and aren’t confined to a standing, weekly appointment. If you like to walk while we explore, we can walk. We can talk over coffee or sitting in my office. It’s flexible and easy and all it requires is a mental commitment from you to keep exploring while we work and to do the assignments with regularity.

Coaching is not for everyone.  Those of you who are suffering from depression or any other serious psychological disorder may be better treated with traditional counseling. I will do an assessment during your first free session.
